Sistan as one of the largest province of Persia is connected to the free oceans by Chabahar harbour, also it is bordered with Afghanistan and Pakistan. Sistan is a heroic district as it is mentioned in Shahnameh of Ferdowsi meanwhile it is a historic city in terms of ancient civilization and urban lifestyle.

Burned City (Shahr-i Sokhta), is one of the initial examples of urbanism with advanced evolution of life infrastructure development in the Bronze Age, which demonstrates the foremost urban texture and planning in ancient time. It is proved that the existence of the city dated to Jiroft Bronze Age, so it is registered as a Unesco World Heritage.

Kalpourgan village is located in the historic area of Persia inhabited with local artists who create peculiar handicrafts such as pottery, needlework clothing and mat-weaving. Baluch villagers craft Mat-weaving out of wild palm leaves to inspire souvenir buyers on how to coexist with nature.

Needlework is a traditional art which has been practised in the north and south of the vast country since ancient times. A valuable work of art by Baloch women artists who beautifully embroider the culture of these people in shapes, forms and colours on the fabric and give it a new identity.


How to Get There

By Plain:

There is no international airline flights available close to the province of Sistan, so you need to take a flight into one of the International Airports, then take a local flight to Kermanshah.

The best option is:

  • Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKA)

When to Visit

Sistan is located alongside the Gulf of Oman in an arid area of Afghanistan and Pakistan borderlines, so the climate is dry with no humidity in the centre and north part of the province, but the south harbours caused the climate to be moderate and pleasant in the area. The most suitable period to visit Sistan is since the beginning of October to the end of March.

How to Visit

Sistan is an eco-cultural destination with diversities of Ecoregions and ancient cultural attractions, so it is recommended to tailor your Itinerary into two parts to visit Chabahar harbour as rocky beaches with its distinctive ecosystem and tangible and intangible cultural heritages, which give you better details about Baloch people and their costumes.
